Why WordPress?
If you’ve spent any time building websites, you’ll know that WordPress is pretty much the go-to platform for good reason. It powers a huge proportion of the web, and once you get under the bonnet, it’s easy to see why. Over the years, I’ve used it to build everything from simple blogging sites to more complex, feature-rich projects — and along the way, I’ve picked up a fair few lessons worth sharing.
WordPress & My Workflow
For me, WordPress isn’t just a tool — it’s the foundation of almost everything I do. As a web designer and business support provider, having a deep working knowledge of the platform means I can build sites that are not only visually strong, but also practical, manageable, and built to grow with a business. Whether that’s choosing the right theme, finding the best plugins for the job, or knowing when a bit of custom code will save a lot of headaches further down the line.

There’s something very satisfying about finalising a WordPress build — but getting there has its fair share of quirks along the way. The sheer number of options available (themes, plugins, page builders) can be overwhelming — especially when you’re new to it. That’s exactly why this feature category exists. Rather than suggesting you read the official documentation (which can be a little cryptic at times), I’ll share what’s actually worked for me, what hasn’t, and why.
I must say, however, the community-based support forums are a very handy resource, even if they do not always provide the exact answer you are searching for.
